			Science Center Chair Named 
            
            One million dollars of the recent $2 million commitment from the John Stauffer Charitable Trust has been designated for the John Stauffer Director Chair--a position currently held by Associate Professor of Chemistry Barbara Murray. 
            Murray joined the university in 1993 as assistant professor of chemistry. In 1997, she was named associate professor and in 1998, she was named director of the Stauffer Center for Science and Mathematics.  
            Murray earned her doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois. She also holds a Master of Science in biology, a Master of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas.  
            She is a member of Alpha Chi, a general honor society; Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society; the American Chemical Society and is an associate member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. 
             
			
			
			Gift Grants New Chair in Government 
            
            Alumnus David Boies '64, a distinguished attorney and member of our National Campaign Committee, is currently funding a chair in government to be held by Arthur Svenson, professor of government. 
            Best known for his courses in constitutional law and the judicial process, Svenson has received three Outstanding Teaching Awards, the University Research Award and was named Mortar Board Professor of the Year in 1992.    
            Svenson has published in the areas of public policy and the arts, seismic-safety planning, and, most recently, physician-assisted suicide. In 2003, he co-authored a book "Physician-Assisted Suicide: The Anatomy of a Constitutional Law Issue." 
            Svenson joined the university in 1981. He earned his bachelor's degree from California State University, Fresno and his master's degree and doctorate from University of California, Santa Barbara.
