Forristall Reigns

Forristall and her daughter, Elena, join Professor of the Year nominees, from left, Ed Wingenbach, Angela Jelliffe and Barbara Morris.

Caryl Forristall, associate professor of biology, joins a distinguished group of colleagues as the reigning Professor of the Year.

Forristall received the 43rd annual honor from the Mortar Board senior honor society at a ceremony Feb. 20. Coincidentally, Feb. 20 also was the first birthday of her newly adopted daughter, Elena.

Forristall delivered the President's High Table lecture on Tuesday, March 12. Her talk, titled "Two-headed Tadpoles, Hens' Teeth and Other Biological Trivia," described recent advances in developmental biology.

The Redlands resident joined the faculty in 1994 after receiving her doctorate in genetics from UC Berkeley. In 1997, her faculty peers honored her with the Outstanding Teaching Award. Forristall teaches genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, anatomy and general biology. She also has worked with the House Ear Institute studying the development of the frog ear and associated genes.
