Linda Granell, director of Public Relations, gave a presentation on "Accomplishing Communication Goals Without the Media" at the CASE District VII Conference in San Diego in the fall.

English professor Robert Hudspeth delivered a paper entitled "Margaret Fuller and the Ideal of Heroism" at an international conference devoted to Margaret Fuller in November held in Rome. Hudspeth also edited a book titled "My Heart Is a Large Kingdom," a compilation of selected letters of Margaret Fuller.

Government professor Robert Jackson was the keynote speaker at a roundtable on security sector reform hosted by the Lester B. Pearson Canadian International Peacekeeping Training Centre at its Cornwallis campus in the fall. The goal of the conference was to enhance Canada's contribution to international programming in the field of security sector reform.

Don McCormick, associate professor of management and business, has two studies, "Field Study Reflection: Two Methods for Encouraging Critical Thinking in Field Study" and "Whole Person Reaction Paper" published in Jossey-Bass' new book "Developing Adult Learners: Strategies for Teachers and Trainers."

Debate coach Bill Southworth participated in an Associated Press panel of high school and college debate coaches that judged Gore the victor in the second presidential debate. The panel voted four to one in favor of Gore. "If you come away and looking for one thing to remember (in the debate), you'll remember that Texas is 50th in health care," Southworth said.
