President James Appleton was appointed to the board of directors of Redlands Centennial Bank at the annual shareholders meeting in April. He will serve on the asset liability/investment and audit standing committees. Trustee Stanley Weisser was also appointed to the board. Trustee Carole Beswick is the director.
Student Services Secretary Julie Cauthron was featured in an article in the San Bernardino County Sun in April. Her husband, Mike, built her a tree house--her childhood dream--for her 50th birthday. The 320-square-foot "cottage in the sky" that sits in a century-old Italian stone in front of their Redlands home is decorated with antiques.
Students and faculty at the Center for Environmental Studies produced an 18-minute documentary on "Palau: Paradise in Peril" that premiered on campus in May. Environmental Programs Director Monty Hempel led a group of students to Palau over interim. The film was accompanied by a 10-minute travel film about Palau and a 10-minute nature film called "The Edge of Wildness."
Vice President for Academic Affairs Philip Glotzbach wrote a piece on "Conditions of Collaboration: A Dean's List of Dos and Don'ts" that appeared in the May-June issue of Academe, a bulletin of the American Association of University Professors. His position: "Institutional governance should reflect academic values: flexibility, trust, inclusiveness and a respect for reasoned decision making."
