Assistant Professor of Biology Lisa Olson's article, "Protection from Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiac Toxicity in Mice with a Null Allele of Carbonyl Reductase 1," appeared in the October issue of "Cancer Research, Volume 63, Issue 20." The article, coauthored with fellow researchers, Djahida Bedja, Sara J. Alvey, A. J. Cardounel, Kathleen L. Gabrielson and Roger H. Reeves, reports upon a genetically engineered strain of mice that is resistant to the toxic side effects of chemotherapy, specifically damage to the heart.

Jennifer Keene, associate professor of history, visited Wellington in November for "Zealandia's Great War" Conference where she gave a talk on the importance of American participation in the First World War. She also delivered a presentation for the United States Embassy on "The Importance of the WWI Generation in American History" in the auditorium at the National Library. The conference marked the 85th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice and preceded the burial of the New Zealand Unknown Warrior on Nov. 11.

Associate Professor Jim Spee presented a case that was coauthored with Associate Professor Don McCormick and Lecturer Dwight Zinn at the North American Case Research Association Annual Meeting in Tampa, Fla., in November. The case, "Deutsche Hollerith Maschinen Gesellschaft (Dehomag), 1933, " discusses IBM's involvement with Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.
