The Buildings

In other sustainable building efforts, the partially underground, energy-efficient Lewis Hall-with its roof and most outside walls covered with earth and native plants-has turned heads for its innovative design and received a silver rating from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) this past spring.

Environmental consciousness will continue in future construction projects. President Dorsey has directed all new buildings, such as the planned Center for Arts Education that will include a new art building and an expansion to the Glenn Wallichs Theatre, be designed to meet LEED certification standards.

"We've been here for a century and plan to be around for a couple more, at least. So with all of our projects, we are taking the long-term view."
