Redlands Sustains

The Students

University of Redlands students are demonstrating their passion for sustainability by seeking to leave the campus a greener place for future students.

Merriam Hall opened its doors in 2007 with new goals and a new attitude -- it is now a themed living/learning community with an emphasis on green living, environmental studies and Outdoor Programs. Plans call for the hall to be the catalyst on campus for promoting sustainable living throughout our residential community.

Students living in Merriam have adopted more stringent recycling standards and are working to reduce their collective energy consumption. Initiatives to moderate the use of electricity and paper products among residents are currently underway.

Alumnus Authors Guide to Sustainable Living

Redlands Alumnus Greg Horn, '87, shares his sustainability expertise in a new book: Living Green: A Practical Guide to Simple Sustainability.

The book explores ways that ordinary people can reduce their environmental footprint and live greener lives.

Horn's book was given to everyone who filled the Memorial Chapel to hear former vice president Al Gore speak about Global Warming in November, 2006.

"I'm really excited to be here... it's taking that first step that is hard, but in the end it will make a difference."
