Women's Studies Director Emily Culpepper and senior Tanya Bakhru were interviewed on KVCR 91.9 FM, the Inland Empire's National Public Radio affiliate, as part of Women's History Month in March.

Kevin Edwards, equal employment opportunity and employee relations manager in Human Resources, volunteered to provide training on "Labor Code and Unlawful Discrimination" to a group of nonprofit agencies in the Inland Empire as a service to the United Way of the Inland Valleys.

Mark Hartley, assistant director of student leadership and involvement, was named the Young Alumni Chairperson for the 2001-02 year by the University of Redlands Alumni Association. In November, he received the Best Educational Program award from the Far West Regional National Association for Campus Activities Conference for his presentation entitled "ERACISM," an in-depth look at race relations on university campuses.

Robert Hudspeth, professor of English, edited "My Heart Is a Large Kingdom: Selected Letters of Margaret Fuller," which was featured in the Los Angeles Times Book Review on April 15. The article was called "The Woman Who Dreamed Too Much: The Posthumorous Triumph of a Genius of Conversation, a Fisher of Men, a Hero of Love and Contemplation."

Kathie Jenni, professor of philosophy, presented "The Moral Responsibilities of Intellectuals" at the American Philosophical Association Pacific Division meetings in San Francisco on April 1. She also chaired a symposium on "The Development of Science and Technology and Contemporary Chinese Ethical Issues," a special meeting sponsored by the Association's Committee on Asia/Asian American Philosophers and Philosophies.

James Sandos, professor of history and Farquhar Professor of the Southwest, will be the keynote speaker for the National Landmark Plaque Ceremony May 5 to be held at Rancho Camulos Museum in Piru, in honor of his involvement with the designation of Rancho Camulos as a National Historic Landmark.

Associate Professor of Chemistry Jodye Selco presented two talks at the National American Chemical Society meeting in San Diego in April. Her presentations were on "Applied Problems in Physical Chemistry" and "Pollution Police." While on sabbatical, Selco studied particulate air pollution at both UC Davis and UC Riverside.

James Spickard, associate professor of sociology and anthropology, has published two articles in European journals. Both focus on non-Western ways of conceptualizing the sociology of religion. "Fashioning a Post-Colonial Sociology of Religion" appeared in the Norwegian journal Tidsskrift for Kirke, Religion og Samfunn (Journal for Church, Religion and Society). "Tribes and Cities: Towards an Islamic Sociology of Religion" was featured in Social Compass: International Review of Sociology of Religion.
