Administrative Updates

A longtime faculty member and administrator, Carrick was hired in 1980 as assistant professor of English.

"Nancy has extensive experience working with each of the academic units of the university, having served as a faculty member, associate dean, and dean," said President James R. Appleton. "Her intelligence, collegiality and understanding of our mission are widely respected. In addition, Nancy's love for and commitment to the university and the Redlands community is unquestioned."

They Even Get Their Own Phone Lines

It used to be that college students who wanted to get their clothes washed either took their chances at the local coin laundry or let it all build up in the corner until the next trip home. Not so for the lucky 200 students who will be the first residents of the new Brockton Avenue apartments. The new apartments will feature a high-tech laundry service that allows students to call ahead to the laundry room to see if any washers or dryers are free.

That's just one innovative aspect of the new student residence. The apartments are expected to open the first week in September, ushering cutting-edge student housing into the University of Redlands.

The 50-unit facility features fully furnished, four-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments in which students will get their own rooms and their own phone extensions. Each apartment also has a kitchen with a full range of appliances.

Kady Wood will serve as resident director, and Lexi Baldiserri will be the resident coordinator of the new apartments. The buildings also will have five resident advisors.

"The unique part is that each student will have their own room," Wood said.

Everyone is invited to an open house from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 19.
