Associate English Professor Leslie Brody has been awarded a residency at the Ragdale Foundation for the summer/fall session of 2003. Ragdale is a nonprofit, internationally acclaimed writers' community located 30 miles north of Chicago. Brody, a nonfiction writer, was chosen for the highly competitive program after anonymous evaluation of her work by several writing professionals.

Several members of the School of Business attended and presented at the annual meeting of the Academy of Management, held in Seattle in August:

  • Assistant Professor Jeffrey Schieberl attended the conference as a new member of the academy and participated in workshops on research methodologies, research publication, and various ethics and human resources topics.
  • Associate Professor Jim Spee led discussions on the paper, "Developing Managers, Teams and Leaders for Greater Organizational Performance." He also used the opportunity to promote the upcoming Organizational Behavior Teaching Conference to be held at the University of Redlands in June, 2004.
  • Assistant professor Judith White presented three papers: "Tracking Bias Against the Selection of Female Expatriates: Implications for Business Education," with Charles Vance and Yongsun Paik of Loyola Marymount University; "Promoting Positive Professional Practice: The Work of the Ethics Committee," with Carol Watson, Kimberly Goal, John Fleming and Regina Bento (Judith is a member of the Academy of Management Ethics Committee); and "Spiritual Means for Creating a Community of Scholars" with Rita Weathersby.
  • Associate Professor Don McCormick was a discussant for the session, "Making the Connection: When Does Organization Change Enhance Performance?" He also facilitated and presented at the session, "Spirituality and Democracy: Friends or Foes?" and displayed one of his drawings in the Academy Arts art show. After the conference, he went to Whidby Island to the retreat sponsored by the Academy of Management's Management, Spirituality, and Religion interest group (he was recently elected representative-at-large for the Management, Spirituality and Religion interest group).

English Professor Judith Tschann spent six weeks at Yale this summer for a seminar called, "The Old French Fabliau and the Medieval Sense of the Comic." The seminar was sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities. "It was a lot of work, and I had to live in a dorm," Tschann said.

Assistant Professor Rasool Azari of the School of Business recently edited a book called Current Security Management & Ethical Issues of Information Technology, which was published last month by Idea Group Publishing.
